Great idea! Till now, meta description has been used to describe the theme of the page. On the SEO front, targeted keywords have been included so that they get bolded in SERPs leading to improved CTR. But using meta description as sales ad, it is indeed a great idea. We must use this.

But the flip side is, as Arunji rightly pointed out, the "chosen" meta description is not always displayed. Still, we should prepare and implement it so that whenever it is displayed, we can reap the benefit out of it.

Meta descriptions were ignored by search engines because they were hidden from browser display and therefore people started to use all types of spamming and keyword stuffing in the meta description. The engines still use these only when they cannot locate a good snippet.

However you are absolutely correct in pointing out that we should include good, attractive copy in the description tag to appeal to the reader when one does get to see it. Including a phone number is a very good idea and I will definitely update my description.
